The business education major provides hands-on, cutting-edge courses in the areas of business, technology, marketing, accounting and economics while providing the core principles of effective education. This major is designed to prepare students to teach at the secondary level (grades 9-12). The business education major is recognized nationally and by the state as an outstanding business education program - see for yourself!
At the high school level, teachers are trained to educate students on more specialized content, such as the theories of business, marketing, accounting and technology. At the middle school level, teachers focus on the basics of keyboarding, computer applications, introduction to business and money management.
A minor in business education provides fundamental knowledge and skills in implementing business and marketing at the secondary level. This minor requires the completion of 36 credit hours and, when completed under the B.S.Ed. Secondary Program, will meet Missouri teacher certification standards for Business Education grades 9-12.
A business education certification is also available for middle school education majors!

Practicum courses are "clinical hours" in where students observe, teach and assist professional teachers at the high school level. Northwest students begin practicum courses as freshman.
During their senior year, students observe teachers and professionals, prepare lesson plans and teach consecutive lessons for a semester-long placement.
Pi Omega Pi is a national business teacher education honor society that recognizes students with high scholastic ability in business education. Eligibility requirements include interest in becoming a business educator; completion of three trimesters of college courses, including at least 15 hours in business or education subjects; and a 3.0 GPA in business and education courses.
